English, Paperback, 21.5x28 cm, 288 pages/Seiten, completely illustr. with hundreds of rare b/w photos, labelshots and article repros; The American rockabilly movement of the mid-1950s captured the imagination and spirit of young people everywhere. The magical blend of country music and the blues-these divergent sounds merged to create rock ´n´ roll-is personified by such vocalists as Carl Perkins, Bill Haley, Gene Vincent, and, of course, Elvis Presley. But Presley soon took other musical paths, and rockabilly sound ultimately faded. In this detailed book, author Randy McNutt de- scribes the music and artists, gives the secrets by behind the songs and tells us how the early rockabilly records were made. Through oral histories and narrative pieces, the author looks closely at why the music was suddenly popular. At the time, the music was only a feel- ing, a seed of youthful rebellion and expression that would not spawn its own poets until late. So this book is a tribute to the rockabillies themselves, known and unknown. May their music lives forever.

(2005/BACKBEAT) Flexicover, 21x28 cm, English, 304 pages, b&w photos. ´Hey, hey, we´re THE MONKEES´ That´s how Mike, Peter, Davy, and Micky introduced themselves every week to the millions of 1960s TV viewers who tuned in to follow their comic adventures. But who were the Monkees? How did they come together? And what led four young men, who set out to be nothing more than prime-time entertainers, to make great records and a bizarre movie? This book is the most detailed and revealing examination of the Monkees ever written. Andrew Sandoval, the world´s leading expert on the group, gives a straightforward and dramatic account of their day-by-day triumphs and struggles, along with a host of fascinating photographs, many previously unpublished. The Monkees tells the story of the group from their formation in 1965 to their collapse in 1970. No one has ever been this close to the Monkees. It´s as if you are there at the recording sessions, the concerts, the TV and movie shoots, the public appearances, and the encounters with the Beatles, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Nicholson, and other key figures of the 1960s. Along the way, we learn about the epoch-making NBC TV series, The Monkees, that began in 1966 and led to a remarkable run of four consecutive number-one albums and six top-ten singles, including ´´Last Train to Clarksville,´´ ´´I´m a Believer,´´ ´´A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You,´´ and ´´Daydream Believer.´´ In the 1960s, sophisticates sneered at the Monkees because of the way they were apparently ´´manufactured.´´ Today we recognize them as the creators of some of the finest pop records of all time. This book shows exactly what happened in those chaotic and heady years when the Monkees became the most famous group in America—and shows why they are still relevant today.
The moody style that early rocker Jody Reynolds pioneered on his 1958 hit ‘Endless Sleep’ has proved to be one of the more enduring and imitated formats in popular music. The song has remained an important entry in the lexicon of 50s rock. Reynolds’ early quasi-rockabilly sides are much sought after, yet the pioneering singer-songwriter has suffered in the reissue marketplace over the years, with only a couple of hodge-podge collections of his work available. ´´The Complete Demon and Titan Masters” finally rectifies the situation with a definitive compilation of Reynolds’ classic 50s and early 1960s sides for the Los Angles Demon label and its associated Titan imprint. All of the artist’s singles are featured, including the rocking ‘Daisy Mae’, ‘Tight Capris’ and ‘Beulah Lee’, and the downbeat gems ‘Fire Of Love’ and ‘The Storm’. The material is drawn from pristine master tapes for the very first time, and these fresh sources also threw up several unreleased titles that are as good as anything Reynolds issued at the time. Reynolds’ singles for Titan include a pseudonymous instrumental credited to the Storms and a rare 1966 duet single which proved to be the record world’s introduction to Bobbie Gentry. Packaged with detailed liner notes and boasting superior sound, Ace’s ´´The Complete Demon and Titan Masters” is finally the anthology that Jody Reynolds has always deserved.
