A witty and entertaining magical novel telling the story of a ten-year-old girl and her quest to visit all ten aunts in order to discover the fate of her parents - were they really killed by pirates at sea? Encountering dragons, witches and water-sprites among others, Bronte is taken on an adventure she could only have imagined...A magical tale of a girl on a mission to visit her ten aunts in order to find out what happened to her parents who were killed by pirates.Bronte Mettlestone is ten years old when her parents are killed by pirates. This does not bother her much: her parents ran away to have adventures when she was a baby. She has been raised by her Aunt Isabelle, with assistance from the Butler, and has spent a pleasant childhood of afternoon teas and riding lessons. Now, however, her parents have left detailed instructions for Bronte in their will. (Instructions that, annoyingly, have been reinforced with faery cross-stitch, which means that if she doesn't complete them, terrible things could happen) She must travel the kingdoms alone, delivering gifts to ten other aunts: a farmer aunt who owns an orange orchard, a veterinarian aunt who specializes in dragon care, a pair of aunts who captain a cruise ship, and a former rock star aunt who is now the reigning monarch of a small kingdom. But as she travels from aunt to aunt, Bronte suspects there might be more to this journey than the simple delivery of treasure, though little does she suspect that she will have to play such a big part in the extraordinary events that follow. With its storytelling aplomb, humor, imagination, and many twists and turns, this novel places Moriarty . firmly in Diana Wynne Jones territory. Readers will want to begin rereading this spellbinder just as soon as they finish it, to find all the clues and connections and coincidences Moriarty drops and weaves and reconciles throughout. If you’ve ever wanted to get behind the controls of an armoured tank, this is the way to do it: a one-on-one session bombing around a track in a 17-tonne behemoth with this Tank Driving Thrill. Three laps in a supercar this ain’t – this is a driving experience for those who like to give themselves a challenge and drive a vehicle about as far removed from your day-to-day car as you can get. 17-and-a-half tonnes of hardened steel, where you can only see where you’re going half of the time as you make your way around the course looking through the tank’s periscope. You’ll be heading out onto a field once visited by old war heroes themselves, as the course is made from a former WWII bombing range. Lap one is a demonstration by your instructor as they show you how to handle the controls and show you the route to take, and then from there it’s all up to you to get your tank around the course. A lap with the hatches open, a lap with the hatches closed, and a final lap of your choosing – whichever way you go, this isn’t a drive you’re going to forget. What's Included? Three laps driving a 17-tonne tank An expert instructor to guide you through the course Drive with hatches open or guided by the periscope, each with their own challenges Free entry into the onsite military museum and collection Experience gift pack Cancellation indemnity What happens on the day? After arriving at least 15 minutes before your experience is scheduled to start, you’ll check in at the tank driving reception before being equipped with a tank suit and Kevlar helmet. Once you’re beside your vehicle your tank driving instructor will give you a detailed safety briefing before securing you in your seat and taking you around the track to familiarise you with the course. After that you’ll move into the driver’s position to take the tank around for three laps, one with the hatches open, one looking through the periscope and one more lap of your preference. The instructor will guide you through from start to finish, and at the end you’ll have free entry into the onsite military collection.
