This new third edition of Bradt´s Israel has been fully updated to reflect all the most recent changes and includes a comprehensive and detailed history section, plus improved maps and structural revisions to aid navigation. Israel is a land where three world religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - meet in stunning landscapes, where ancient architecture stands next to modern, where the fertile north spills into the arid southern desert and where the secular live alongside the devout. From its ancient history and the sacred Jewish, Christian and Muslim sites of Jerusalem, to modern Tel Aviv with its trendy districts, countless museums and bustling markets, Israel has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. In Bradt´s Israel you´ll find tips on the top hotels and restaurants, details of local wines, fascinating hiking routes, plus all the information to get the best from Israel´s range of attractions. Each town shows the vast diversity of culture and traditions. Jerusalem offers an insight into the history of one of the world´s most poignant cities, whilst Tel Aviv is awash with boulevards and epitomises modernity. In turn Haifa is a true seaside gem, with its striking Baha´i Persian gardens, whilst Nazareth is the throbbing heart of Arab hospitality and warmth. From archaeological remains of Crusader castles and Roman cities, scuba diving off Eilat´s coast, marvelling at the mountainous Golan Heights to floating in the Dead Sea and discovering cool wadis and thermal baths, Bradt´s Israel is the perfect travelling companion, enlightening and enhancing every trip.

The ubiquity of space in human thought and Language has inspired research in many fields for centuries. One central question has been how children learn the Language of space. Detailed findings on how specific spatial expressions are acquired during the very first years are available. However, little effort has been made to come up with a holistic picture of the development of space in Language. This book is such an effort. It is inspired by cognitive linguistics, embodiment theory and interactionist approaches to Language acquisition and invites its readers to go on a developmental journey from infants´ preverbal spatial experiences to their early and later stages of spatial Language acquisition. In addition to extending the time span into adolescent and early adult years, the study includes both literal and non-literal instances of space. By concentrating on categories of space rather than on their linguistic correlates, it is possible to link the different developmental phases and to focus on a range of spatial configurations in Language as wide as possible.

This book was written to serve as a graduate-level textbook for special topics classes in mathematics, statistics, and economics, to introduce these topics to other researchers, and for use in short courses. It is an introduction to the theory of majorization and related notions, and contains detailed material on economic applications of majorization and the Lorenz order, investigating the theoretical aspects of these two interrelated orderings. Revising and expanding on an earlier monograph, Majorization and the Lorenz Order: A Brief Introduction , the authors provide a straightforward development and explanation of majorization concepts, addressing historical development of the topics, and providing up-to-date coverage of families of Lorenz curves. The exposition of multivariate Lorenz orderings sets it apart from existing treatments of these topics. Mathematicians, theoretical statisticians, economists, and other social scientists who already recognize the utility of the Lorenz order in income inequality contexts and arenas will find the book useful for its sound development of relevant concepts rigorously linked to both the majorization literature and the even more extensive body of research on economic applications. Barry C. Arnold, PhD, is Distinguished Professor in the Statistics Department at the University of California, Riverside. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. He is the author of more than two hundred publications and eight books. José María Sarabia, PhD, is Statistics Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Cantabria, Spain. He is author of more than one hundred publications and ten books and is an associate editor of several journals, including Journal of Banking and Finance , TEST, and Journal of Statistical Distributions and Applications .

This compilation focuses on the theory and conceptualisation of statistics and probability in the early years and the development of young children´s (ages 3-10) understanding of data and chance. It provides a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge international research on the development of young learners´ reasoning about data and chance in formal, informal, and non-formal educational contexts. The authors share insights into young children´s statistical and probabilistic reasoning and provide early childhood educators and researchers with a wealth of illustrative examples, suggestions, and practical strategies on how to address the challenges arising from the introduction of statistical and probabilistic concepts in pre-school and school curricula. This collection will inform practices in research and teaching by providing a detailed account of current best practices, challenges, and issues, and of future trends and directions in early statistical and probabilistic learning worldwide. Further, it will contribute to future research and theory building by addressing theoretical, epistemological, and methodological considerations regarding the design of probability and statistics learning environments for young children.

This book shows how principles of self-regulated learning are being implemented in secondary classrooms. The 14 chapters are theoretically driven and supported by empirical research and address all common high school content areas. The book comprises 29 lesson plans in English language arts, natural and physical sciences, social studies, mathematics, foreign language, art, music, health, and physical education. Additionally, the chapters address students with special needs, technology, and homework. Each chapter begins with one or more lesson plans written by master teachers, followed by narratives explaining how the lesson plans were implemented. The chapters conclude with an analysis written by expert researchers of the self-regulated learning elements in the lessons. Each lesson and each analysis incorporate relevant educational standards for that area. Different types of high schools in several states serve as venues. This powerful new book edited by Maria K. DiBenedetto provides a unique and invaluable resource for both secondary teachers and researchers committed to supporting adolescents in the development of academic self-regulation. Each chapter is jointly written by teachers who provide a wealth of materials, including lesson plans, and researchers who situate these lesson plans and academic self-regulation goals within the larger work on self-regulation. The topics covered are far broader than any other book I have seen in terms of developing academic self-regulation, covering over a dozen content areas, including literacy, mathematics, social studies, the sciences, and the arts. Teachers and scholars alike will find this book a must read. Karen Harris, EdD, Arizona State University A practical and magnificent blend of educational research and application. This book goes beyond presenting the findings of research on self regulation by connecting detailed strategies that align with the standards to the research. DiBenedetto et al. clearly illustrate how to develop self regulated learners in the classroom. A refreshing must read for all secondary educators and educational researchers seeking to be well grounded in education research and practical application techniques. Heather Brookman, PhD, Fusion Academy- Park Avenue Self-regulated learning is a research-based process by which teachers help students realize their own role in the learning process. Connecting Self-Regulated Learning and Performance with Instruction Across High School Content Areas consists of model teachers´ lessons and analyses by prominent educational psychologists in the field of self-regulated learning. The book provides teachers with the tools needed to increase students´ awareness of learning and inspires all educators to use self-regulated learning to promote engagement, motivation, and achievement in their students. The book also provides administrators with the principles needed to infuse evidenced based self-regulated learning into their curriculum and instruction. I highly recommend the book!
